Event - Live Strong
On May 13, 2008, RGV residents Aaron R. Lara (Cancer survivor) and Joe Aguilar (Cancer advocate), joined together with the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) to unite people affected by Cancer and raise awareness about Cancer issues.
The event (Coyote Stadium, Edinburg) organized by Aguilar and Lara is one of 500 local LIVESTRONG Day events to be held across the country to engage communities with experiences that increase awareness and show support for Cancer survivors and their loved ones. On May 13, Edinburg, in partnership with all the other Valley cities proclaimed May 13, as ‘LiveStrong Day.’ Presenting the Proclamation was Edinburg Mayor, Joe Ochoa. State Representative Veronica Gonzales also attended and spoke at the event.
Lara stated that both, Mayor Ochoa and Representative Gonzales had been his key supporters. His hope is that the political community as a whole will fall behind the efforts started.
